The Vidyasagar Setu in Kolkata will remain fully closed to traffic for 24 hours from 9:00 pm on August 16 to 9:00 pm on August 17. The closure is to facilitate lifting and placement of steel portal beams near Santragachi and the replacement of stay cables, holding down cables, and bearings as part of a major repair and rehabilitation project.
According to the notification issued by the Kolkata Police, heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will be barred from the bridge and its ramps from 9:00 pm on August 16 to 5:00 am on August 17. Alternative routes via Andul Road, Drainage Canal Road, GT Road, and other arterial roads have been arranged.
From 5:00 am to 9:00 pm on August 17, the restriction will extend to all types of vehicles. Detailed diversion plans have been laid out for traffic approaching the bridge from different entry points, with vehicles being rerouted through Howrah Bridge, Nivedita Setu, and other key roads. Authorities have advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.
